Whirly Word App Reviews

Addictive but weird words.

I have a really decent vocabulary. I get frustrated when the words in this game have their origins in foreign cultures and religions, rare animals in other countries and proper names. I continue to play it. Its a fun game that functions well. I also get frustrated when a word that could POSSIBLY have sexual connotations is excluded. I dont expect the game to accept nasty words, but this game screens out too much.

Good game

My one complaint is that if Im listening to music and I open the game app my music stops playing. I can go back to the music, press play and then go back to the game and listen while I play but its mildly irritating to have to do that. Not sure if this problem is just me or universal though. Either way itd be great if they could fix it!

Fun & educational

Ive played it a lot & learned many new words. Challenging & fun!

Doesnt include all words

Have played this for quite a while but am now trashing it. Tired of the game not including words that are in the dictionary simply because some conservatives might find it "offensive". The final straw for me was a puzzle where the longest word possible was "public". So of course, the perfectly legitimate word of "pubic" had to be one of the other ones, right? WRONG! Not a listed word. God forbid anyone realize that pubic is a real word and type it on their phone. And this is not the first time this has happened. I wonder if Apple will censor this review since it has the word "pubic" in it.

Its a dud

What dictionary is even being used for this game?? Im all for expanding my vocabulary, but Im baffled at the things passing as words. Its fun to unscramble words, but not fun to just put in random combos of letters in hopes that youll hit upon some obscure foreign plant, currency, dialectical variant, abbreviation, or proper noun. It would also be more fun if it were gamified a bit. How about levels, awards, or the opportunity to challenge friends?

Okay

Fun but there arent very many puzzles at all. 20 different letter shuffles, maybe? Not really worth $1.99...

Nice mind stimulator game

Ive played the free version for a couple of years now, and thought Id get the most up to date version, so I bought it. One negative is that there seems to be no difference between paid and free, other than more color schemes. Also, there is no way import stats from the free version.

Fun

Ive been playing this game for over a year. Love it!

Why stop the music?

Great game to play, but I cant listen to music or podcasts and play at the same time - frustrating!

Fun and addicting but strange rules

I agree with a lot of reviewers that the basis dictionary is totally inconsistent. Some abbreviations are allowed, but not others. Some foreign words are allowed, but not others. I understand limiting profanity but other sexual or medical terms should be allowed. I got this game free from Starbucks a long time ago and love to play it; you just have to get over the weird rules. But I would totally love this game more if they fixed this issue that is clearly bothering every person who plays it!

So. Much. Fun!

Most engaging word game Ive ever played, hands down.

Bias is Getting Unacceptable

I have played this game for at least 2 years now and the critiques I am hearing from much older comments still exist. My issue is one that relates to our current world situation. I have a child serving in the US military defending our country against terrorist extremists. When many normal English words fail to show up in the dictionary because they relate to human bodily function or sexuality (though proper English words that are NOT in an of themselves vulgar), I was dismayed. But then when words that are loosely transliterated that have to do with mid eastern culture and religion so show up (obscure as they are to many English speaking US citizens), I am enraged. Please consider how this might be more balanced. PS, I finals gave up on beating those few puzzles that use nothing common and are only intended to end the game and I just use a cheat to get past them. Good game and one of my favorite "go-to" short games to kill a few minutes, but wont do it without keeping an eye out for political and moral bias. This goes only so far and then I hit delete.

Addicting

I love this game. I can’t stop playing it. It is so much fun try the free version and you will want to buy the full version

Same as nearly every review

Almost at the review I read starts with its a good game, but... I have to agree with them. The dictionary is ridiculous and the publishers dont care. Too bad. The choice of music is absurdly bad.
